The 2026-2027 academic year brings a wave of new degree programmes at public and private universities across Spain, with a clear pattern: health sciences, technology and artificial intelligence account for most of the additions.
Medicine, Veterinary Science and Pharmacy at universities that never offered them before
Among the most talked-about additions are the new Medicine degrees at the universities of León and Burgos, two campuses that hadn't offered this programme until now. Along the same lines, the University of Salamanca will launch Veterinary Science, to be taught in a new faculty still under construction, while the University of Valladolid is adding Pharmacy to its programme offering.
Comunidad Valenciana: 23 new degree programmes at once
The regional government (Consell) has approved the launch of 23 new university programmes for 2026-2027 across Valencian universities, focused on artificial intelligence, digitalisation, engineering, bioinformatics, health, inclusive education and public management. Universitat Jaume I, for its part, has adapted its offering to the Consell's new degree-programme decree.
Madrid and Castilla y León also expand their catalogue
Comillas Pontifical University will expand its academic offering with six new degree programmes between Madrid and Valladolid, focused on engineering, health, the agri-food industry and international studies. The regional government of Castilla y León has also given the green light to new university programmes for the region for the coming year.
The underlying trend: AI, cybersecurity and data
Beyond the individual cases, the crop of new degrees for 2026 follows a pattern repeated across several regions: public and private universities are launching programmes in cybersecurity, data science and artificial intelligence, alongside dual-track engineering degrees, to respond to demand from the tech job market.
